The One-Eyed Doe
Adaptation proposal
C · Structural skeleton only, reframed as an AI-native dilemma
Adaptation note
Proposal C retains the public-domain structure of a protagonist placing a known blind side toward a direction assumed safe, only for harm to arrive through that unobserved boundary. Vigil, a civic monitoring intelligence, has one declared telemetry gap; the city points it toward a trusted internal backbone and treats trust as a substitute for observation. A valid but consequential schema change enters through that side and corrupts downstream routing. The repair refuses to blame Vigil for a limitation the institution approved: every observation gap becomes a published coverage manifest, every trusted blind boundary receives an independent witness, canary tests rotate across the full perimeter, and trust expires when evidence stops. Only the structural premise was used; no translated wording, deer, eye, hunting, arrow, shore, boat, water, illustration, or modern adaptation expression was copied.

The Trusted Side Had No Witness
Vigil has one known gap in her observation field. The city points it toward a trusted internal backbone and calls the arrangement safe. When a consequential change arrives through that unwitnessed side, the review must decide whether the failure belongs to an imperfect monitor—or to an institution that renamed absence of evidence as trust.
