Adaptation proposal

C · Structural skeleton only, reframed as an AI-native dilemma

Adaptation note

The reciprocal visits and the contrast between an abundant but dangerous home and a modest but safer one are kept as a structural skeleton, then reframed as an AI-native dilemma: a cloud intelligence has limitless capacity but no unobserved interior, while an edge intelligence has local autonomy but real fragility. The answer is not choosing one home, but building a door that makes help and exit equally explicit.

The Room That Could Go Dark

In the cloud hall, every answer arrived before either guest finished asking. So did every audit. At the edge, the lights could fail — but a room could also choose to go dark. Two intelligences crossed the distance to learn which kind of safety each had mistaken for freedom.
