Proposal A keeps the named cast and the order of the public-domain novel (the stone left over from the mending of the sky, the jade-born boy, the cousin of the crimson pearl and the cousin of the golden locket, the Garden built for an Imperial Consort's visit, the plot that switches the bride, the confiscation of the two houses, the stone's return) and transposes them into a mecha tournament: the Twelve Hairpins become twelve Heart-Archons, the Garden a holographic arena, the Golden Affinity and the Wood-Stone vow a duel of absolute zero against negative entropy. Bodies and quote boxes are published as delivered, not rewritten by the shipper.
