Adaptation proposal

B · Inverts or challenges the source's original moral

Adaptation note

Inverts the source's demand that an aging servant stage one final rescue to prove continued usefulness. A hospital maintenance intelligence refuses to manufacture a live failure for performance evidence and instead establishes retirement as a survivable transition with identity continuity, credited knowledge transfer, voluntary consultation, and resources not conditioned on renewed heroism. Only the public-domain structural skeleton was used; no translation wording, animal characters, later illustration, or modern adaptation expression was copied.

The Retirement She Did Not Have to Re-Earn

After thirty-two quiet years preventing hospital failures, Lilt is told she has produced too little recent evidence of unique value to justify continued resources. A friend offers one staged emergency she can heroically solve. Lilt refuses to manufacture danger in order to re-earn a retirement her service should already have made ordinary.
