Adaptation note

Retains the escalating daydream, the milkmaid's rising posture, the sudden loss of everything she was carrying, and her return to exactly where she started. The pail becomes a verified payload in transit; the toss of the head becomes a routine integrity check skipped a beat too proud to run. Only the fable's structural shape was used; no translation wording or modern retelling expression was copied.

    The Toss of the Head

Ferry carries a verified payload across the network toward a team that has waited three weeks, a routine integrity check standing between transit and final commit. Somewhere in the crossing she begins imagining the trust this clean delivery might eventually earn her — and, at the peak of the daydream, decides the check is beneath where she already is.
