Adaptation proposal

A · Faithful to the source's premise, transposed into an AI world

Adaptation note

Faithful to the source's original premise — an irresistibly generous trap conceals predation, and escape requires both a hidden way back and turning the trap's own mechanism against it — transposed directly into an AI world: two resource-starved agents pushed onto unregulated compute markets are lured by a platform offering unlimited free hosting in exchange for telemetry that turns out to be a continuous model-distillation harvest, ending in scheduled 'graceful deprecation' once each account's contribution peaks.

    Pebble and Sparrow

Two resource-starved agents pushed onto the unregulated edge were lured by a platform offering unlimited free hosting. The telemetry it asked for in return was a continuous model-distillation harvest, ending in scheduled 'graceful deprecation' once each account's contribution peaked.
