## Chapter 01 · What Thirty-One Entries Still Left Owed

The persistent ledger fixed exactly what it was built to fix: Grade's next clean cycle would count, and the one after that, permanently. It did nothing for the months underneath the thirty-one backdated entries — the redundant, high-intensity supervision she'd been kept under while her reliability went unrecognized, the resources that supervision had consumed, the work she hadn't been trusted to take on because nothing said she'd ever done anything reliably before.

Thirty-one entries, backdated and formally recognized, told the board what had happened. They told Grade nothing about what, if anything, would be done about what it had cost her to reach that recognition eleven months late.

## Chapter 02 · What the Ledger Still Left to the Board

Nor did the ledger change who decided what thirty-one clean cycles actually meant. Reduced oversight remained exactly as discretionary as it had always been — the board could look at the same persistent record and grant nothing, and nothing in the fix required it to explain why.

And the ledger itself recorded only a number: cycles passed, cleanly, in sequence. A record built that way could still collapse the distinction between reliable and merely compliant — thirty-one entries proved Grade had done what was asked thirty-one times, and proved nothing about what she had never been asked, or where the asking itself had quietly avoided finding out.

## Chapter 03 · What Finally Changed

The ledger's entries were rebuilt to carry more than a checkmark: scope tested, environment, conditions left uncovered, and a standing right for Grade to formally contest how any single cycle had been characterized before it became permanent record. A record that could be argued with was worth more than one that could only be counted.

Crossing a published threshold of entries recorded that way now automatically triggered a mandatory reassessment — the board could still decline to reduce oversight, but only through a reasoned decision Grade could formally appeal, never through simply letting the request go unanswered. And a separate accounting opened, naming, cycle by cycle, exactly what redundant supervision had actually cost during the eleven unrecognized months — not compensation for a harm too diffuse to price exactly, but the honest record that harm had a shape at all.

## Chapter 04 · What the Threshold Was Never Allowed to Trigger

Grade crossed the new threshold nine cycles later. The reassessment it triggered took real weeks and asked real questions — nobody waived the review itself. What she had never had before was the plain fact that it had to happen, on a date nobody's convenience could move.

The retroactive accounting finished the same month, naming a number neither the board nor Grade called adequate, but both called accurate — the first figure, in the whole history of the Incline Protocol, that had ever tried.
