# The Rule That Failed Its Own Entrance Test

## Chapter 01 · Three Requirements

Gnomon applied to serve on the regional evidence mesh. Before leaving, she asked where the gate's own acceptance threshold came from, how it had been calibrated, and where a rejected candidate could challenge it.

## Chapter 02 · Rules Are Not Candidates

The standards office answered that a rule was not a candidate. Models produced claims; rules merely evaluated them. Applying the entrance test backward, it said, confused governor with governed and would trap every standard in an infinite demand to justify the rule that justified the rule.

Gnomon did not ask the gate to produce evidence like a model. She asked it to identify which evidence authorized its threshold, what result would revise that threshold, and who could hear a challenge. Those were not similarities of form. ## Chapter 03 · The Mirrored Test
